And now I'll teach you how to create a ghillie suit.
The ghilie suit that we can buy in stores aren’t really good : they are heavy, they aren’t waterproof, they change color because of humidity, they’re aslo warm and they are mostly inefficient.
That’s why I’m going to show you a tutorial on how to create a functional ghilie suit inspired by the techniques of organic books an innovative company in the camo industry.
Let’s see what we need to buy! Hloy sh*t Damn that's gonna be expensive *INGREDIENTS* To begin we'll need : some water, acrylic paint (it cost between 3 and 5 euros), if you aren’t Van Gogh, which means you don’t know how to paint but you are full of money you can buy : a sample group of colors you will need for your ghillie suit.
That way you will avoid doing some uneasy hazardous color mixes And if you’re on a tight budget, go for blue, red and yellow colors so that you will be able to do every color, except white.
Then you will also need some white liquid mastic (for rooftops) For a complete suit which means, head cover, upper, lower, replica and backpack you should use 2L litter of white waterproofing which costs around 50$.
yup, it's expensive Some cotton fabrics You'll need 4 meter square, you can find this in a shops for approximatively 5$ a meter.
You will also need some container around 600 pieces of black or brown serflex I recommend you to buy them online it’s wayyy cheaper 😉 Some burlap findable in haberdashery A brush Any 2d camouflage suit you want Some clothespin Raffia paper that you can find in any hardware store, some green and brown mosquito net And a suit that will protect you from smudge “I don't like being spread over” *FABRICATION* Step number one Understand what color you’ll need by analysing the place you’ll play in Here for exemple, we can clearly see that we'll need some.
Personnally, I play low profile so I will use mid high shades of green Note that some leaves absorb light whereas others reflect it.
we are going to recreate with our suit Of course in winter the terrain won’t be the same, so you'll need to adapt your suit to the season Step 2 cut your fabric in 50cm wide strips Step 3 Let’s mix ! Best is to mix directly on field, so that you can easily compare colors For all the lazy ones, and those living downtown you can use photos But be careful, colors might differ from reality also take some sample directly from your ground play I found this in the forest.
it was hard to find and strangely it was already in a flower pot Jokes appart, we are going to be as close as possible from these 3 shades of green and these 2 shades of brown This step will largely depends on the colors you have and the shades you want First put some DIP in a jar Hoo that’s good Then put some paint Add some water Adjust with the color you have to obtain the result you want According to me it’s too clear, I’m going to darken the mix with some dark green and brown… Here it is, so it’s not exactly the same but take into account that the paint will darken when it dry.
Don’t forget not to add more than 25% of paint in your mix otherwise it will be too liquid Once you're good with your color, move to.
Step 4 Coat your fabrics with your mixture, but don’t put too much mixture or you will heavier your suit.
It’s beautiful isn’t ? Step 5 !! Do it again and again to get all the shades you want ! Holy shit, I put paint in my eyes Alright, I got green eyes now It seems to be the exact same color, looks good Here we go, we’ve got all the colors we need Now, up to step number six, dry your pieces of fabric Get to work guys, gonna have a cup of coffee Sorry guys, I’m very classy Now let’s wait for six hours… *French country song* This is soft-air (ok bad pun.
) Fuck, I broke the light bulb Make sure you did the same for the other side Make the other face dry again ☺ Once everything is dry.
Now, step number 8 Go the description bellow where you’ll find the same pattern, you only have to print it twice on drawing paper, to cut it out and to gather both tips.
Then draw the shape of your pattern on the fabric Once you did it, move your pattern and repeat the same operation as many times as you want Here’s the result.
Of course, I used a thick felt-tip so that you’ll be able to see it on camera but I recommend you to do it with a very thin felt-pen Now to cutting Be smart and spare yourself by cutting many pieces at the same time You get your garlands done.
Cut them before each peak Here is the result Now cut your mosquito net with notched scissors and imitate kind of small leaves This time, you don’t need to be very precise while cutting it The messier, the better Step 9 : fix your leaves to the 2D camo-clothes Make two holes separated by 3 up to 5 millimeters, insert a serflex and fill it with either a camo-leaves (which will reflect light) or mosquito net (which will absorb light) Make two holes separated by 3 up to 5 millimeters, insert a serflex and fill it with either a camo-leaves (which will reflect light) or mosquito net (which will absorb light) Try to mix both materials and to cut them again if needed Anyway, you got it, what really matters is to be smart and efficient within details Go to the description bellow where I put a link with other combinations You can also this technique on your molle PC, chest rigs or backpacks 😉 And here is the result !!! [Fashion show mode activated]“And now the exculsiiive piece of the new collection, the vegetal burka, which is used to hide your true nature” Step number 10:Test your ghillie on the field don’t worry if the result isn’t perfect first, you only have to cut some serflex and replace them In general, the adjustment time is nearly one season… the time that the environment changes and you realise you need to make another ghillie suit Now lets compare the ghillie we bought online (“en jute”) and the “home made” one 😉 Now some advice… OUR ADVICES 1) Choose wisely your 2D camo, otherwise you might put tons of 3D camo, it will be still inefficient 2) You also can use clothes with thin meshes or a handmade suit made from fast screen camouflage But you won’t benefit from your original 2d camo.
I recommend you to check the tutorial of Renand and Onga on sniperland and youtube.
This episode wouldn’t have been made without their help, so I thank them a lot.
Ok, since this tutorial was quite expensive I’m going to take a look on how to create false banknotes.
